“Guitar UP!”, was notoriously yelled at the sound guy throughout a concert by guitar rock pioneer Link Wray during a visit to Kalamazoo’s Club Soda in the 90’s. It would later become the name of a band from Kalamazoo in homage to Link and that concert. Heavily Influenced by the early 60’s era of guitar rock and instrumental surf music, Guitar UP! plays covers of classic guitar instrumentals from artists like the Shadows, the Ventures, Link and others. They also have written their own guitar instrumentals with echoes (actually lots of reverb) of spy, surf, spaghetti western and movie soundtrack styles. Formed by members of many local bands, Guitar UP! plays local clubs, car shows, festivals and private events around the West Michigan area.
